The FECiDA 2- Pack LED Grow Light (ASIN B07TL9VFD4) was ranked 387 on Amazon’s Best-selling Plant Grow Light list, and has a 4.2 overall review rating. A single light was priced at $29.99, but a two-pack was priced at $49.99, putting this light right in the middle of our price range. And a note on Amazon’s best-seller list: It may not reflect quality of the products as much as marketing of them.
Although it ranked low on the best-sellers, and had a slightly lower review rating, at the time of our purchase it had a “Buy One Get One” offer that made it irresistible: If you bought the two-pack, you received a free FECiDA 80W Four Head 80 LED clamp-on gooseneck plant grow light (ASIN B0836S5NNM) with timer and dimming features. Not the strongest or best-ranked in the category, but it was free.
Each of these Red/Blue spectrum lights feature 42 LEDs that draw only 50 watts of electricity, but the company claims it would replace a 300 watt High Pressure Sodium light. That’s a pretty big promise. The graphic spectral analysis provided by FECiDA shows blue light ranging from 400 to 480 nanometers, with a sharp spike at 450 nanometers (figure 1). The red spectrum is a broader curve from 610 to 720 nanometers, with some infrared radiation emitted from 720 to 800 nanometers. Light in the green portion of the spectrum is negligible. LEDs are rated at 50,000 hours. There is a 30-day return period, but the warranty is unclear.
These square 7.9-inch (200 mm) plant grow lights offer a small area of LEDs in a larger aluminum waterproof frame that has numerous vents for heat dissipation. Being waterproof offers a whole different set of options for use for this plant grow light.
PPFD (μmol/m2/s) is rated at 218 at 8 inches, about half of the Shengsite plant grow light that cost less, but considering The FECiDA plant grow light is producing that with only 42 LEDs, about 1/6 the number in the Shengsite plant grow light, each LED must have much higher output.
Figure 2 shows the illumination (in lux) of the FECiDA lights mounted on the red/blue shelf of our Plant Grow Light Shootout. Engineers at Reed Instruments, the manufacturers of our light meter, suggest creating an average of the red and blue readings for a more accurate illuminance reading. There are a number of calculators online that can convert the illuminance in lux to Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density (PPFD) readings.
