There are two main tricks for vegetative propagation of carnivorous Venus Fly Traps: Rhizome division and leaf pulls.
The main advantage of using these techniques is that the new plants will be clones of the parent plants, and not be subject to the genetic drift caused by sexual (seed) propagation. This drift is due to the random combination of genes and random mutations of those genes that occurs in the process of seed production, even when self-pollenating plants.
So vegetative propagation preserves all the characteristics of the desired cultivar, when every seed might produce a plant slightly genetically different from the parents.
Check out our video demonstrating both methods of vegetative propagation:
The “typical” Venus Fly Traps used in this video were all part of our LED Plant Light Shootout. You can find that article, videos, and photos here: https://www.rainforeststationpets.com/blog/led-plant-light-shootout/
The Castroviejo micro scissors and forceps I use in the video work great for delicate trimming around your house plants. I don’t know how I lived without them.
